Fire Marshal

Authorized under the Georgia Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Act, The Marietta Fire Department, and specifically the Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO) is a statutorily mandated Fire Marshal’s Office and specialized law enforcement agency that provides essential public safety services.  The FMO relies on a customer first operational philosophy to achieve agency goals and balance community risks regarding fire/life safety and emergency response within the 24 square miles of Marietta and 70,000 population while encouraging a strong and sustainable economy.


The Fire Marshal is an Assistant Chief and oversees all activities of the Division.

  • Fire and Safety Education/Community Risk Reduction
  • Enforcement of State Laws and Local Ordinances Pertaining to Fire Prevention
  • Inspection of Buildings
  • Investigation of Fires
  • Plan Review
  • Record Keeping
    • Requests for incident reports may be completed by submitting an open records request through SagesGov to the Fire Department directly.
    • Requests for records other than an incident report, including historical building or site environmental information can be completed by submitting a request through SagesGov to the office of the City Clerk.

Additional Responsibilities


The Fire Marshal also participates in developing short and long term goals for the fire department's strategic plan and oversees the development of the department's annual report, which provides an overview of fire department activities and highlights for the previous year. The Fire Marshal prepares the annual budget for the Fire Prevention Division.
