Property and Evidence
RETURN OF PROPERTY/ EVIDENCE IS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
Appointments are available Monday through Friday 8:00am until 3:30pm, except on City Government Holidays.

Valid ID is required at any appointment to retrieve property/ evidence. Acceptable forms of ID are:
• Current valid state-issued Driver’s License
• Current valid state-issued ID Card
• US Military ID Card
• US Passport
Other documents may be required to retrieve property/ evidence at the request of the Property and Evidence Technicians.
The owner of said property may designate another individual to pick up the property. The designated person must provide valid ID and a notarized letter giving permission to them to retrieve the property. The notarized letter must include the owner’s name, the person’s name retrieving the property, a description of the property to include case number, make, model, and serial numbers where applicable.
Any property, not marked as evidence, will be held for forty-five (45) days from the date it was received. After the 45 days, the property will be disposed of pursuant to G.A. State Law.
Owners picking up a firearm must pass a background check.
Proof of ownership is required on all firearms by means of an original sales receipt or other documentation proving ownership of weapon.
If items being requested are marked as Evidence, the items cannot be returned unless the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (if charges have been filed) and the sentencing has been completed or the Officer/ Detective authorizes the release (if no charges have been filed) and the statute of limitations has been met. The authorization must come from the Prosecuting Attorney or Officer/ Detective directly to the Property and Evidence Unit. Final Court Disposition documents are not accepted in lieu of a release.
