Georgia Firefighters' Cancer Benefit Program

In 2017, the General Assembly of Georgia passed House Bill 146 that requires legally organized fire departments to provide certain cancer benefits for eligible employed and volunteer firefighters. Governor Nathan Deal signed it into law on May 4, 2017, with an effective date of January 1, 2018. The City of Marietta, through an intergovernmental contract with the Georgia Interlocal Risk Management Agency (GIRMA), complies with House Bill 146 and has coverage provided via the Georgia Firefighters' Cancer Benefit Program (GFCBP). The program provides a critical illness benefit for a cancer diagnosis, as well as a long term disability benefit for those who are unable to work because of a cancer diagnosis.
