MARIETTA, GA - The City of Marietta announces it has entered into an agreement to acquire 1033 Franklin Gateway utilizing designated Redevelopment Bond funds, which were approved by voters in a 2013 referendum, for the redevelopment of the Franklin Gateway Corridor. Following a collaborative partnership and productive discussions with the property owner, IKEA Property, Inc., Marietta City Council voted to purchase the property at an agreed-upon price that matches the price paid by the owner in 2018.
The 34-acre site formerly comprised two parcels, one of which was purchased from the City and the other acquired from a private property owner. The City looks forward to strategically identifying development opportunities for this property in accordance with the Redevelopment Bond language and furthering its efforts to bring additional quality investment to the corridor and to the Marietta community.
“This purchase reflects our continued commitment to thoughtful, strategic use of Franklin Gateway’s Redevelopment Bond funds,” said Mayor Steve Tumlin. “I appreciate IKEA’s collaborative partnership that made the agreement possible, and I look forward to seeing how this property will contribute to the long-term stability and success of the corridor.”
