New Construction

Marietta Power will install, own and maintain the primary distribution system, underground or overhead, within commercial and industrial areas. The customer will be responsible for all underground secondary service laterals. This includes installation and maintenance of underground secondary service laterals. Marietta Power will install and maintain overhead secondary service laterals. Normal voltage options are: 120/240 single-phase, 120/208 three-phase wye or 277/480 three-phase wye. Most new commercial customers will have power installed to transformer at no cost.

Transformer Locations

Transformer pads will be set by Marietta Power after the customer has installed secondary service conduit to the transformer location and provided Marietta Power with a load sheet or panel schedule. Transformers are set on prefabricated concrete pads. Underground transformers must have 10' access space on the door side and 6' on all other sides. Transformers must also be 10' away from exterior walls and 15' away from doors. If any of these clearances cannot be met, please contact your area designer. You may also need to consult applicable fire codes and your local inspection officials for options if it is too close to a structure or door.

Boring Charges

Any new construction where boring must occur either to cross a paved surface, or upon request of the customer, a charge of $15 per foot will be applied. The customer may perform their own boring on their own property at their own expense and subject to inspection and approval by Marietta Power.

Rock Excavation

Any new construction or conversion to underground where rock excavation must occur, Marietta Power will charge $60 per foot of required excavation. The customer may perform their own excavation on their own property at their own expense and subject to inspection and approval by Marietta Power.

Additional Charges

Customer will be responsible for any other additional cost associated with the service installation not covered by set fees, and will be charged before the time of installation. These charges may or may not be avoided by the customer performing required work to mitigate issues. This may also include requests for automatic transfer designs, or other work that goes beyond normal best practices for providing reliable power.

Utility Relocation

Relocation of power lines not required to provide power to new customers, but requested by a customer will be billed at cost. The customer may also be required to contact other utilities including telecom companies and pay them separately for relocation work.
