MARIETTA, GA - Marietta Police Department (MPD) Chief David Beam announced a department wide restructuring and review of duties a few months ago.  The senior command staff have since identified multiple changes that will enhance training opportunities, increase organizational performance, and expand programs to better serve our community.  In order to accomplish the growing needs of the department and city, these plans included the need for a third Deputy Chief position.  With approval from Marietta City Council, the position was posted in November and after interviews, MPD Major Jake King was selected to fill the position.  This afternoon King was officially pinned as Deputy Chief.  He will be assigned to manage the MPD Uniform Patrol Division.

Jake King started with MPD in 1998 and has taken on a wide variety of roles, including assignments in Uniform Patrol, Community Outreach, SWAT, Honor Guard, PIO, and as a Detective in Investigative Services.  He holds a graduate degree in Public Safety Management from Columbus State University, is a graduate of the FBI, National Academy and is an alumnus of the Cooper Institute of Physical Fitness. He is certified as a General Instructor and has numerous specialized instructor certifications, including Firearms, Use of Force, Taser, Active Shooter, and Physical Fitness instruction.

Incumbent Deputy Chief Twaddell will be assigned to manage the Investigative Services Division.  Incumbent Deputy Chief Rutland will be assigned to manage the Support Services Division.  We appreciate the ongoing support from our city leaders as the department restructures to meet the changing needs of our community.
