City Manager Bill Bruton, Jr. Recommends Interim Chief Marty Ferrell to Serve as Police Chief

MARIETTA – On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, City Manager Bill Bruton, Jr. recommended current interim Chief Marty Ferrell to serve as the new Police Chief of the Marietta Police Department. 

Appointed by Mr. Bruton, Ferrell has served as the department's interim chief since February 1, 2022, upon the retirement of former Chief Dan Flynn. Ferrell joined the Marietta Police Department in 1990 and has served the City of Marietta in numerous law enforcement roles over his 32-year career.  

The process to fill the position as Chief of the Marietta Police Department was an extensive national interview process which included comprehensive background checks and panel interviews. City Manager Bruton then made the recommendation to City Council on August 30th for Marty Ferrell to serve as the new Police Chief. 

This recommendation will be voted on by the City Council at a Special Called Meeting on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at 5:30pm.
