MARIETTA – The City of Marietta's Environmental Services Department remains committed to providing cost effective and efficient services while remaining environmentally conscientious. Because plastic bags are not readily compostable, effective January 1, 2017 we will only accept compostable brown paper bags for all grass clippings, pine needles, leaves and similar yard trimmings. As always, customers are permitted to use non-disposable rigid containers for similar yard debris. No other provisions for yard debris service are changing at this time.

The City of Marietta is currently one of the last municipalities in the state to accept plastic vegetative waste bags. These plastic bags are currently not accepted at the waste transfer stations so the City's crews must unload each bag at the residential addresses and either return the plastic bags to the citizens or dispose of them in the proper manner. By utilizing only brown paper bags, the City will be able to make services more efficient for all residents.

If you have any questions, please call the City of Marietta's Sanitation and Recycling Division at 770-794-5595.
