MARIETTA – In conjunction with the end of daylight savings time on Sunday, March 12, 2023, the Marietta Fire Department would like to remind residents to change the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when changing clocks this weekend.

The Marietta Fire Department recommends changing the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors twice a year when changing the time on your clocks.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends replacing smoke alarms every 10 years, to clean your smoke alarm regularly (according to the manufacturer’s instructions), and to have several smoke detectors in a home. This includes an alarm on every level and outside every bedroom, and inside bedrooms if people sleep with the door closed. It’s also a good idea to install smoke alarms away from cooking vapors to avoid false alarms, according to the NFPA.
