MARIETTA – The City-owned utility provider, Marietta Power, is pleased to announce that it has expanded its power portfolio to now include solar energy, continuing to make Marietta one of the leading energy companies in our market providing renewable power to its customers.
The City of Marietta has the highest percentage of non-emitting carbon neutral energy generation of companies in the surrounding market. This new diversification in Marietta’s power sources will not require the city to pay for the construction of the solar farm. The solar field is planned to go online around the end of 2023 and is estimated to have 260,000 solar panels.
The City is continuously evaluating its power resources for its over 45,000 customers to provide more options for non-emitting energy and ways to diversify its generation portfolio mix. Because solar energy has a very low fixed price and we only pay for the power when it is generated, this gives Marietta Power the ability to purchase solar in lieu of some of our other higher cost energy resources during peak times of energy consumption.
Marietta Power continues to be the leading energy company in the area providing renewable power to its customers, and with this addition of solar power the City and Board of Lights and Water will now have solar, hydro, and nuclear as part of its non-emitting supply.
