MARIETTA – Ahead of the football matchup between the powerhouse of the Marietta Blue Devils and the Rome Wolves on Thursday, August 22, 2019, Mayor Steve Tumlin has challenged Mayor Bill Collins of Rome to a friendly wager over the much-anticipated outcome.
Mayor Tumlin created this tradition last year when he wagered a highly coveted Blue Devil hat, autographed by the Commander and Chief himself with a “The Big Chicken Lapel Pin” attached to the hat. While the Marietta Blue Devils fought the good fight, they still suffered a loss at the hands of the Rome Wolves last year. Mayor Tumlin graciously accepted the defeat and was forced to wear Rome Wolves attire while giving his loudest Rome High Wolf Howl.
This year, WHEN Marietta wins, Mayor Collins will have the pleasure of wearing Marietta blue and white regalia. If Rome squeaks out a victory, then our Gem City will see Mayor Tumlin walking around in red and black (which to be fair we can just attribute to his alma mater UGA).
Make sure you come out to support our Blue Devils in their opening game this season. Let’s show Rome what being a part of the Marietta community is all about!
