MARIETTA – The Georgia Ballet’s 2019-2020 Season will include The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with Carmen Suite, The Georgia Ballet’s The Nutcracker, and Coppelia at the Jennie T. Anderson Theater. This season marks The Georgia Ballet’s 60th Anniversary. Season tickets are on sale now at a discounted rate until Sept. 15.
Artistic Director, Daet Rodriguez says “It fills me with pride and joy to direct The Georgia Ballet’s company; however, it comes with the challenge of maintaining and enriching its roots. It’s my goal to preserve and solidify the artistic growth we’ve seen in our community.”
The season will kick off with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Carmen Suite Sept. 19-22. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is an original ballet choreographed by Rodriguez for the 2018-2019 season. The ballet is based on the story written by Irvin Washington. Carmen Suite is a one act ballet full of love, drama and tragedy. The Georgia Ballet’s The Nutcracker is a holiday tradition and will run Dec. 5-8. The season will finish with Coppelia, the story of Dr. Coppelius and his creation of a very special doll, and will run March 19-22.
Executive Director, Joy Johnson says, “We are so excited to be celebrating our 60th season at The Georgia Ballet. We started our celebrations last March with our production, Remembering Iris, to honor our founder Iris Hensley. The productions we chose for this celebratory season are audience favorites and have something for everyone and every age”.
Each performance will include a sensory friendly show. Sensory friendly shows are tailored to children and adults with different visual and auditory sensitivities.
The professional company will also host an in-studio performance, New Works + Wine, at The Georgia Ballet studio on Oct. 19. Tickets are available at the door for this performance. Audience members will view a variety of choreographic works in an up-close, personal setting and have the chance to mingle with company members.
Enrollment for The School of The Georgia Ballet is currently open. The school offers classes for students ages 3 and up in a variety of genres. Registration is available online at georgiaballet.org/school. DanceAbility, a free dance program for children with special needs, will begin in September.

The Georgia Ballet is a nonprofit organization comprised of three key components that make the organization exceptional: the Professional Company, The School of The Georgia Ballet and the “Arts in Education” community outreach programs. The Professional Company is composed of remarkably talented dancers with versatile abilities. Our professional dancers have trained and performed across the U.S. and the world. The goal is to fill the artistic voids in communities throughout Georgia, by enlightening students’ spirits and introducing them to the art of ballet. Each season, the professional company performs numerous productions for the public and thousands of school children.
