MARIETTA, GA. – Sam Skelton and the GSO Jazz Combo will return to the Strand Theatre on the Marietta Square to present the exciting music of Piazzolla and Jobim at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 18. Always a great favorite, this ultra-talented GSO Jazz septet will add a Latin flair to their jazz performance in celebration of the toe-tapping rhythms of bossa nova and nuevo tango.
Astor Piazzolla has been described as “the world’s foremost composer of tango music,” and the multi-Grammy award winning Antônio Jobim created an international sensation with bossa nova. The two composers created numerous pieces that are now included in jazz and pop standard repertoires.
The May 18th performance will present the GSO Jazz Combo along with vocalist Karla Harris in an intimate setting at the Strand Theatre. GSO Jazz is known for playing jazz standards, swing, and contemporary compositions. Bandleader and saxophonist Sam Skelton has recorded with Elton John, Matchbox 20, Train, and The Ohio Players, among others. GSO Jazz is part of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra organization.
The Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre is located at 117 North Park Square on the Marietta Square. Tickets are $28 for adults, and $10 for students.
