Marietta Police Department SMILE program
Systems in Marietta Intersecting with Law Enforcement
Started back in 2018, Former Chief Flynn reported sharp (12%) reductions in crime within the Marietta city limits. He attributed the
reduction in part to the cooperation of city residents as well as the
partnership formed with several local businesses. As a result, MPD began the SMILE program to leverage the MANY independent security systems already in use within the city. The goal is simple: Give MPD Detectives quicker access to names and cell phone numbers of existing private camera systems that may have recorded evidence.
In the event a crime occurs, investigators can view the SMILE map to determine which cameras may have captured images of a suspect. The map will not have access to any
cameras or systems, but simply document their locations as well as the contact
information the owner provided. The map
will only be accessible to law enforcement personnel. The SMILE program is completely voluntary,
confidential and free. Homeowners and business owners retain all system access, videos and images just like they always have. Providing investigators
with this new map will reduce time walking neighborhoods and potentially speed
up investigations.
Residents and business owners are urged to join us in assembling this crime fighting map. The direct link to the registration page: https://arcg.is/1i9Gy90

We assembled a pamphlet that explains the SMILE program in a printed format. Feel free to download, print and distribute. When printing, choose to print "on both sides and flip on the SHORT side." The link to the Word document is here: tri-fold SMILE brochure for printing
