MARIETTA – Ahead of the football matchup between the powerhouse of the Marietta Blue Devils and Back to Back State Champion Rome Wolves on Thursday, August 16, 2018, Mayor Steve Tumlin has challenged Mayor Jamie Doss of Rome to a friendly wager over the much-anticipated outcome.
Mayor Tumlin was the first to throw down the gauntlet in support of our City’s hometown team. So sure of a Blue Devil victory, Mayor Tumlin has wagered a highly coveted Blue Devil hat, autographed by the Commander in Chief himself with a “The Big Chicken Lapel Pin” attached to the hat. WHEN the Blue Devils win, Mayor Doss will wear the Blue Devil hat, big chicken pin and perform the chicken dance to all in attendance.
Not to be outdone by Mayor Tumlin, Mayor Doss accepted the challenge and raised the stakes. If the Rome Wolves happen to win on August 16th, Mayor Tumlin will be FORCED to wear Rome Wolves attire while giving his loudest Rome High Wolf Howl.
“I am extremely proud of our Marietta Blue Devil football team this year and fully support our boys on the field and their coaches as they embark upon their season,” said Mayor Tumlin. “Our City is the BEST when it comes to supporting our school system. I am highly confident that when we face Rome next Thursday we will come out on top. I sincerely hope Mayor Doss is spending his time practicing his chicken dance moves because a light arm flap just isn’t going to cut it!”
Make sure you come out to support our Blue Devils in their opening game this season. Let’s show Rome what being a part of the Marietta community is all about!
