City of Marietta Celebrates Historic Preservation Month

MARIETTA – On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, City Council presented a proclamation to the Marietta Historic Preservation Commission recognizing May 2018 as Historic Preservation Month in the City of Marietta in conjunction with the celebration of National Historic Preservation Month.

The proclamation stated that the Mayor and City Council recognize the importance and benefits of historic preservation and fully support the activities of the Historic Preservation Commission and the Historic Board of Review as historic preservation is an effective tool for economic development, heritage tourism, growth management, sustainable development, neighborhood revitalization, fostering local pride and maintaining community character while enhancing livability.

it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people. Historic Preservation Month provides an opportunity for citizens of all ages and from all walks of life to recognize the important role that historic preservation plays in individual lives and in communities.

Historic Preservation Month is celebrated by the City of Marietta, Cobb Landmarks and Historical Society, the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, and other local preservation and neighborhood organizations throughout Georgia.
