MARIETTA - The Marietta Fire Department would like to remind its citizens that the annual statewide burn ban began on May 1, 2018 and runs through September 30, 2018.
During the ban, citizens and businesses cannot burn yard and land-clearing debris. The ban is in addition to a year-round ban on burning household garbage throughout all of Georgia, according to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
The ban is needed to comply with federal clean air regulations, according to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). Citizens who do not adhere to the ban may receive a fine.
Residents who see illegal burning during the ban should call 911.
