MARIETTA – In recognizing Georgia’s Severe Weather Awareness Week during the week of February 5 – 9th, the Marietta Fire Department hopes to bring invaluable knowledge to its citizens when faced with any type of severe weather.
This week provides an opportunity to learn more about the dangers of severe weather, as well as knowing how and when to take proper actions when severe weather is in your forecast. Please take the time now, to review your home/school/businesses preparedness plans as each day is dedicated to a different topic that addresses severe weather preparedness. Throughout the week, the topics to be covered include:
Monday - Family Preparedness
Tuesday - Thunderstorm Safety
Wednesday - Tornado Safety
Thursday - Lightning Safety
Friday - Flash Flooding/Flood Safety
Some helpful tips provided by the Marietta Fire Department:
1. Ensure your family has an emergency plan for severe weather.
2. Count your pills: ensure that you have enough prescription medication on hand just in case you cannot get to your local pharmacy for a few days.
3. Stock up on extra food and have enough water for everyone in the house for at least 5 days.
Please visit the City of Marietta’s Facebook page as it will provide information pertaining to each day’s theme throughout the week.
