MARIETTA – The Switzer Library’s Afterthoughts Book Club kicks off at Switzer Library in downtown Marietta on January 10, from 10:30 am – 11:30 am. The book club for adults will meet on the 2nd Wednesday each month. The discussion group will be led by experienced book club guru, Ruth Swan.
The first selection is Helen Simonson’s Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand. The novel is about a man living a quiet life in the village of St. Mary, England who strikes up an unexpected friendship with a Pakistani woman from the village after his brother’s death. The two are drawn together by their shared love of literature and the loss of their respective spouses.
The discussion is sure to provide an interesting insight into things like social hierarchy and changing societal norms. We will be asking and answering questions, discussing our favorite passages, and talking about characters, themes, and settings.
Afterthoughts Book Club will be reading one book a month. All of our selections will be available through book club kits though the library. All interested parties need to do is go to the front desk to request the book for book club.
