MARIETTA – The Marietta Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce it was awarded the Georgia Recreation & Park Association’s D5 Class “A” Agency of the Year Award at the annual awards ceremony.
The GRPA District 5 includes all city and county departments northwest of Fulton County and the Class A designation indicates that Marietta is among the largest departments in the district.
The criteria to receive this award included the department’s contributions to the community through programs, special events, and athletics and its involvement in both professional and community organizations. Additionally, the award recognizes the department’s lasting impact on the community and its efforts to promote the field of recreation.
More specifically, the Marietta Parks and Rec Department was recognized for new parks and improvements to existing parks, new programming at the Custer Park Sports and Fitness Center, the new Franklin Gateway Sports Complex, trails and future connections, and special event coordination and communication to the public.
