MARIETTA - North Georgia Reads 2017 presents award-winning writer Sharyn McCrumb at the Switzer Library in downtown Marietta on Saturday, November 4th at 6 p.m. She will discuss her new novel, The Unquiet Grave, a story based on the true case of the Greenbrier Ghost.
McCrumb’s new novel is the latest in her Appalachian “Ballad” series covering the people and the land of the mountain South, including the New York Times bestsellers The Ballad of Tom Dooley, The Ballad of Frankie Silver, and Ghost Riders.
The November 4th event is free and open to the public. North Georgia Reads was created to promote collaboration between neighboring library systems and to bring bestselling authors to a community of 46 libraries in North Georgia.
Books by Sharyn McCrumb will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of Book Exchange of Marietta. The Unquiet Grave is set in 19th century West Virginia. McCrumb will give an overview of her historical and genealogical research on the Greenbrier Ghost case. The novel is about the true tale of a mother determined to bring her late daughter’s husband to justice with the timely assistance of a ghost and the attorneys involved on both sides of the courtroom, including the first African American lawyer in the region, and other characters confronting a changing world.
“This is vintage yarn-spinning. McCrumb hears voices from the grave and kindly passes their messages along.” – The New York Times
“These alternating voices are, on the surface, very different: in race, gender, and social status. Yet, they both characterize individuals struggling to find their place in a world that does not always make sense, and struggling to know when and how to speak out to ensure justice is done. From records and reports, McCrumb stitches together two sides of a beautiful, complex quilt, telling one story with two different faces.” – Carolina Mountain Life, Summer 2017
Switzer Library is located at 266 Roswell Street, Marietta 30060.
