MARIETTA - The Georgia Symphony Orchestra (GSO) opens the 2017-2018 season with Music Director Timothy Verville in a celebration of powerful Classics. “From Darkness to Light” begins with Beethoven’s stormy yet appealing Overture to Coriolan and moves into Ravel’s stunning Piano Concerto for the Left Hand. The GSO welcomes the award winning pianist Stanislav Khristenko to perform this strenuous piece, which was composed for a World War I veteran whose right arm was amputated during his service. The second half of the concert presents selections from Haydn’s magnificent oratorio, The Creation, with the GSO Chorus and guest vocalists Arietha Lockhart, Nathan Munson, and Shawn Keswani. The oratorio, which is basically an opera without costumes and scenery, includes texts from Genesis, and recounts the seven days of Creation as described in the Bible.
