The Marietta Police Department is honored to announce that MPD Chief Dan Flynn has been selected as the Chief of the Year by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP).
The GACP Summer Conference was held in Savannah, Georgia this week. Tuesday night, GACP Executive Director Frank Rotondo and GACP President Billy Grogan announced that Chief Flynn was being recognized as “Chief of the Year.” GACP incorporated in 1962 and this is only the second time in their history that a chief has received the award twice. Chief Flynn was previously selected as the GACP “Chief of the Year” in 2011.
Daniel Flynn started his career in law enforcement in 1973 with the Miami–Dade Police Department. He has held various ranks and has been recognized for numerous accomplishments during his (44) years in law enforcement. He served as Chief of Police for the Savannah Police Department as well as the Savannah–Chatham Police Department before taking the helm as Chief of Police for the Marietta Police Department in 2007.
Chief Flynn is a very strong proponent of the Community Policing Philosophy and emphasizes the importance of positive relationships with the community he proudly serves. He has a passion for law enforcement and is proactive in efforts to consistently move forward. Chief Flynn frequently testifies at the state capitol regarding legislative bills that are important to the law enforcement community. His work with local house representatives resulted in the passing of multiple bills into law. He exemplifies leadership in a modern era law enforcement agency. His vision has resulted in an organizational culture that honors tradition and values advancements in training and technology. He is respected by his personnel, his peers and the community because of his dedication to his profession and his desire to exceed expectations. We thank the GACP for recognizing Chief Flynn as their 2017 “Chief of the Year.”
