The Marietta Housing Authority is composed of 5 members appointed by the mayor (see O.C.G.A. August 3, 1950). The mayor shall appoint 5 people as commissioners of the authority. If the mayor fails or refuses to submit appointments within 30 days after notice from the governing body of approval of a resolution of necessity of termination of existing appointments, the governing body may appoint the commissioners of the authority created for Marietta. The mayor shall appoint, in addition to the other commissioners, one or 2 additional commissioners of whom at least one is directly assisted by the Marietta Housing Authority and who shall be known as a resident commissioner.
Qualifications
No commissioner can be an officer or employee of the city.
Term
Members serve a 5-year term. The commissioners who are first appointed shall be designated to serve for terms of office of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 years, respectively, from the date of their appointment; but thereafter commissioners shall be appointed for a term of office of 5e years, except that all vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term. (Note: terms end on May 29).
Compensation
A commissioner shall receive no compensation for his or her services; but he or she shall be entitled to the necessary expenses, including travel expenses, incurred in the discharge of his or her duties.

Purpose
The Marietta Housing Authority provides quality, affordable housing assistance to eligible families in the city of Marietta and surrounding Cobb County. The Housing Authority is committed to promoting family self-sufficiency through partnerships with cooperative agencies that provide training, education, apprenticeships and moral support.
