Municipal Court Judges are part-time and appointed by the Mayor of the City. Judges are not available by phone. All communications are conducted in open court and according to the laws and procedures governing such communications.
Training
Municipal Court Judges are required by law to receive annual training to remain in good standing and be permitted to serve in the capacity of Judge. Upon appointment and prior to serving, a judge must receive 20 hours of training commonly known as New Judge Orientation/Basic Certification. Each year thereafter, the judges must satisfy 12 hours of training. Training is offered several times a year by the University Of Georgia Institute Of Continuing Judicial Education.
