Types of Information We Collect

What is GovDelivery?
GovDelivery is a hosted Web application that allows governments and other organizations to to improve distribution of documents and information.
What information does GovDelivery collect? How is that information used?
GovDelivery only collects personally identifiable information about you to the extent you specifically provide it to us. This includes, for example, the information you provide when you register to receive subscriptions or notices from the city of Marietta.

Other information about you
In addition to information you provide (e-mail address, password, subscriptions, preferences), GovDelivery uses technology that lets us know what type of browser you are using, the website from which you enter GovDelivery and which GovDelivery pages you view. This technology does not identify you personally - it simply helps us compile statistics about our visitors and their use of the GovDelivery application. We use these statistics and share them with third parties only to improve our website design and content and in connection with marketing programs.
Users browsing documents from one of our partners will receive a "session cookie" that is stored on the user's computer only until they close the browser. The session cookie allows the server software to keep the user logged in as they browse GovDelivery. The cookie is not shared with other websites, does not track or store personal information and expires as soon as the user closes the browser.
What if you do not wish to have your information stored by GovDelivery for any reason or purpose?
If you have provided your information to GovDelivery for whatever reason and would prefer that GovDelivery not store your information for any purpose, simply visit GovDelivery to cancel your subscription and delete your profile. You can also request removal from our database by sending an e-mail to Remove stating your request. We will act promptly to honor your request.
GovDelivery does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If a child has provided GovDelivery with personally identifiable information, we ask that a parent or guardian send an email to Support with the child's name, and we will do our best to delete the information from our files.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
GovDelivery uses secure socket layer (SSL) to encrypt your personal information before it travels over the Internet. SSL technology is the industry standard for secure online transactions.
Other Methods of Collecting Information
Our web pages may contain electronic images (called “single-pixel GIFs” or “Web beacons”) that allow us to count users who have visited particular pages or to access certain cookies. We may use these tools and other technologies to recognize which pages users visit and which links on which they click. These features may also be included in our e-mail newsletters so that we can learn which messages have been opened and acted upon.
Browser Level Information and IP Addresses
Our Web server automatically collects limited information about your computer configuration when you visit our website, including the type of browser software you use, the operating system you are running, the resolution of your computer monitor, the website that referred you and your IP address. Your IP address is a numerical address that is used by computers connected to the Internet to identify your computer so that data such as the Web pages you want to view can be transmitted to you. We also use IP address information for systems administration and trouble-shooting purposes. Your IP address does not tell us who you are. We use this information to deliver our Web pages to you upon request, to tailor our website to the interests of our users and to measure traffic within our site.
We do not allow third-party advertising on our website. If a for-profit business or organization is mentioned on our website, it is in a context other than advertising that business or organization.
Disclosure of Information
We do not allow third-party advertising on our website, and we do not provide information we collect to advertisers or other for-profit organizations for their use.
To make our website more valuable to our visitors, we may offer some features in conjunction with other providers. All service providers must either be (1) other governmental or quasi-governmental agencies; (2) state- or federal-chartered municipal corporations; and/or (3) agencies and/or organizations that are partially sponsored by the city of Marietta.
Much of the information we collect is in the form of aggregated statistics, such as the traffic that visits various pages within our sites and the habits and preference of our audience. Such aggregated information does not include any information that would identify you personally. We may use such aggregated information and disclose it to third parties as we see fit.
Sites to Which We Link
We may occasionally release information about our visitors when release is appropriate to comply with law, to enforce our visitor agreement, or to protect the rights, property or safety of visitors to our sites, the public, our customers, or our government and its employees, agents, partners and affiliates. The city of Marietta, as a governmental entity, is bound by the Freedom of Information Act, and, upon proper request under this Act, may be required to release information not normally available to the public.
Storage of Information
All information gathered on our site is stored within a database operated by us or by a contractor on our behalf. Sensitive information, such as your password, is encoded for storage. Encryption scrambles your personal information. However, as effective as encryption technology is, no security system is impenetrable. We cannot guarantee the security of our database, nor can we guarantee that information you supply won’t be intercepted while being transmitted to us over the Internet.
Changes to this agreement, policies and posting
The city of Marietta reserves the right to change this agreement and policies at will, with or without advance notification to website users. This agreement and olicies, and any subsequent changes or additions, will be posted on the city of Marietta's website at all times.
