Free electronics recycling April 25

The public is invited to celebrate Earth Day by recycling old electronics and other items April 25 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Aviation Street softball complex, 455 Aviation Road. You will be able to watch your electronics as they are recycled on site.

Acceptable electronic items

  • computers
  • laptops
  • servers
  • keyboards and mice
  • MP3 players
  • cell phones
  • PDAs
  • wires and cables
  • docking stations
  • external/internal hard drives
  • tape drives
  • external modems
  • electric motors
  • transformers
  • sound equipment (receivers, amplifiers, CD/DVD player, etc.)
  • computer network equipment (hubs, routers, etc.)
  • banking equipment (cash counters, magnetic card readers, check printers, etc.)
  • test equipment (oscilloscope, voltmeter, amp meter, power meter, voltage generators, etc.)
  • telecommunication equipment (telephones, network switches, antennas etc.)
  • AC adapter
  • power supplies
  • surge protector
  • switch boxes
  • calculators
  • fax machines
  • small copy machines
  • UPS batteries
  • over-head projectors
  • typewriters
  • scanners
  • VCR players
  • office shredders
  • tape players

Televisions will be accepted for a $10 fee (no console models)

  • gas-powered equipment

It's estimated that there are at least 4.4 million personal computers and 8 million televisions in Georgia. This will eventually become 334,800 tons of garbage in our landfills.

"Our goal is to promote the recovery, reuse and recycling of obsolete electronic equipment, and to promote the design, manufacture and purchase of environmentally responsible electronic equipment," Keep Marietta Beautiful executive director Joan Ellars said.

MOLAM International, 925 Industrial Park Drive, Marietta, GA 30062, will recycle items brought to the event.

The recycling event is sponsored by Keep Marietta Beautiful.

It is the mission of Keep Marietta Beautiful, the Marietta Clean City Commission, to generate an environmental pride and a sense of ownership within the Marietta community.
