Council approves route for multi–use trail

Marietta City Council March 11 approved a route for a portion of the Kennesaw Mountain to Chattahoochee River walking, biking and running trail. The section Council approved is called the Intown section.

Construction on the Intown section, which costs $3.4 million and is funded by the 2005 special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST), is scheduled to begin in October 2010 and end in June 2011. The Intown section will extend to West Atlanta Street at Brown Park.

"The Intown section has completed its concept design and is now in an environmental review with the Georgia Department of Transportation before going into full construction design," city engineer Jim Wilgus said.

Trail segments

  • Beginning at the end of an existing trail segment at the intersection of Tower Road and Roselane Street
  • Crossing Roselane Street at an existing two-way stop
  • Southward along the eastern side of Roselane Street
  • Crossing Roselane Street at a new all-way stop at Radium Street
  • Southward along the western side of Roselane Street
  • Eastward along the southern side of North Sessions Street
  • Crossing North Sessions Street at a new all-way stop at Saint Joseph's Way
  • Eastward along the northern side of North Sessions Street
  • Crossing North Sessions Street at an existing all-way stop at Campbell Hill
    Street
  • Southward along the western side of Campbell Hill Street
  • Eastward along the southern side of Brumby Street
  • Southward along the property line common to 111 North Marietta Parkway,
    297 Church Street and 289 Church Street
  • Eastward along the property line common to 289 Church Street and
    281 Church Street
  • Southward along the western side of Church Street
  • Westward along the northern side of North Marietta Parkway along the
    previously approved route

Construction on the north section of the trail, from Kennesaw Mountain to Tower Road, has already been completed.

"The south section of the trail will continue to the portion Cobb County has constructed along Atlanta Road, just south of South Cobb Drive," Wilgus said.
