GONE WITH THE WIND MUSEUM LOANS ARTIFACTS TO ORLANDO HISTORY CENTER

The Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum, Scarlett on the Square recently loaned items from the collection of Dr. Christopher Sullivan to the Orange County Regional History Center in Orlando, Florida. The collection, which is permanently on display at the Marietta museum, boasts hundreds of artifacts relating to the book and movie. Some of the items on loan are Ona Munson’s hat and reticule (she played Belle Watling in the movie), a Danish edition of the novel signed by author Margaret Mitchell to the publisher, a painting by artist Sam Cook entitled The Burning of Atlanta from the Clark Gable estate, and a black leather-bound edition of the novel presented to Lana Turner by Louis B. Mayer during her audition for the role of “Scarlett O’Hara” and signed by Ms. Turner.

Connie Sutherland, Director of the Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum, and collector Dr. Chris Sullivan, took part in the grand opening of the exhibition in Orlando on February 1st (Clark Gable’s birthday). Cast members Ann Rutherford (“Carreen”) and Mickey Kuhn (“Beau Wilkes”) from the movie Gone With the Wind were special guests, signing autographs and speaking about the filming of the world’s most beloved movie.

The History Center exhibit of Gone With the Wind related memorabilia is on display through April 15, 2007 before the items are returned to Marietta.
