Toilet Rebate Information
Marietta is supporting water conservation by offering a rebate to encourage the installation of more efficient toilets.
The biggest water user in the home is the toilet, and more than 45 percent of indoor water used is flushed down the drain every day.
Marietta Water is introducing a toilet rebate program to provide an incentive for customers in homes built prior to 1993 to retrofit older high-flow toilets with new low-flow technology. Customers will be eligible to receive rebates for up to three toilets per home for purchases made beginning September 20, 2007 the date the Drought Response Level Four was effective.
The program has two rebate options. The first is a $50 rebate for the purchase of any 1.6 gallon per flush toilet on the approved toilet list, which will be available on mariettawater.com. These toilets were chosen because they have been tested and proven as a quality product by an independent testing lab. Also, they have been shown to provide a sustained water savings over time. The $50 rebate list will be updated every year, coinciding with annual Maximum Performance Testing.
The second program option is a $100 rebate for high efficiency toilets. These toilets use 1.28 gallons per flush and have received the WaterSense labeling certification. WaterSense is the Environmental Protection Agency's labeling program for water efficiency. It is modeled after the Energy Star program and WaterSense toilets will have the logo on the product. A list of WaterSense toilets will be available at mariettawater.com. This list will be updated quarterly as WaterSense adds newly qualified products.
To receive the rebate Marietta Water customers should purchase a toilet from the approved list (see below) and submit the original receipt along with an application to the Marietta Water marketing office. After verifying the eligibility of the toilet and the age of the home the rebate will be applied as a credit to the customer's water bill.
Program funds have been capped, and rebates will be made on a first-come, first-served basis depending on the availability of funds. Look for more information about this and other water efficiency programs here.
Also, the Home Depot will reduce the price of installing a water efficient toilet at all metro Atlanta stores from $90 to $59. This price will be good on all toilets that are identified on the list toilets of eligible for rebates. Installation will remain at $90 for toilets not on the water efficient list.
