Mayor's Office

During the campaign for my first term in office, I promised that I would work to eliminate the costly fiber optic program at the Board of Lights and Water, get rid of the inefficient and expensive management of the Marietta Conference Center and Resort, and begin the process of revitalizing Marietta's large stock of run-down rental housing. At the end of four years, with the leadership of the City Council and the able implementation of City staff, those promises made were promises kept.

Now it's time to concentrate on revitalizing our city through

  • Redevelopment/creation of more safe, stable neighborhoods for families
  • Reduction of rental housing, increase in homeownership
  • Increased code enforcement
  • Preservation of Marietta's special look through infill and overlay zoning
  • Better-looking streets through an improved sign ordinance and streetscape plans
  • Improved traffic flow

Changes are in the wind. Developers are building in-town homes for several thousand new residents. People are getting excited about renewed life in old neighborhoods and they want to be part of it. "Within walking distance to the Marietta Square" is cropping up in more and more real estate listings.

We are only beginning, but we are beginning and momentum is building. Our new Marietta Vision Statement describes a Marietta where people live, work and play in vibrant neighborhoods, and where we work together to strengthen our wonderful independent school system.

What a great opportunity we have to make this our legacy.
