Section 8 Housing (HUD)
The City of Marietta's Division of Housing and Community Development operates a Federally Funded (HUD) Program that offers very low income families assistance in monthly rental payments.
The City of Marietta completed a lottery application/selection process in the spring of 2001 that has resulted in a very long waiting list. Therefore, unless otherwise noted on this page, the City of Marietta Program is not accepting new applications.
The main objective of the Marietta Section 8 program is to assist very low income families to obtain decent, safe and sanitary housing while maintaining their rental payments at an affordable level. Additionally, at the forefront of our local objectives, is a commitment by our program to encourage the self sufficiency of our participant families. Our current Family Self Sufficiency program has 55 Section 8 participant families receiving intensive training and counseling designed to improve their economic circumstances. Families set their own short and long term goals to obtain fiscal independence from governmental assistance. We are currently considering several new funding mechanisms to also assist these families in purchasing their first home as an integral part of the self sufficiency process.
Cobb County residential property owners who are willing to agree to maintain decent, safe and sanitary rental housing units are encouraged to contact our program for listing and lease to our Section 8 participant families. Contact us for a full information package on the responsibilities and benefits of leasing to the families we are assisting.
As our program is not accepting new applications, persons interested in participating in the Section 8 program may wish to contact these other Housing Assistance Agencies to see if they are accepting applications.
