Marietta Education and School System

Welcome CenterMarietta City Schools rank among the top 15 percent of public school systems nationally. The System serves 7,500 students at small neighborhood schools with the dynamics of an urban school district. Marietta City Schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Four schools have been named Georgia Schools of Excellence, and one has been named a National School of Excellence. The International Academy is one of the latest additions to the curriculum of Marietta City Schools. This program is for non-English speaking students in grades 6-12; it provides intensive English-language lessons, allowing a smoother transition to the regular classroom.

International Baccalaureate Program
In 1995, Marietta High School became the first traditional high school in Georgia authorized to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) program. It provides highly motivated college-bound students an opportunity to pursue a rigorous liberal arts curriculum, culminating in external examinations in six academic subject areas. The requirements for the IB diploma are structured to meet the most rigorous university requirements around the world. MHS IB graduates have gone on to universities such as Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, Duke, Georgetown, University of Chicago, Stanford, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and many others.

Private Schools
Marietta is home to approximately 10 private schools, many of which are affiliated with religious organizations. Roughly 2,500 students, from PK-12th grade, attend these schools.

Post-Secondary Education
Marietta is home to three colleges and universities, serving over 20,000 students in more than 90 programs of study.
