Return to Grants Page
The City of Marietta received $785,000 in grant funds from the Department of Energy and is beginning two of the four projects under the Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant in the month of January. The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program (EECBG) provides grants to U.S. local governments, states, territories, and Indian tribes to fund programs and projects that reduce energy use and fossil fuel emissions and improve energy efficiency.

The first project is the Traffic Light Conversion to Light Emitting-Diode (LED). Scott Lawler, the Fleet Maintenance Manager with the Marietta Public Works Department is the project manager for this project. The City has signed a contract to install the new LED bulbs with Metropower Inc. Eight intersections throughout the City will be converted to LED; the first areas to be upgraded will be the intersections S. Marietta Pkwy & Cobb Pkwy and N. Marietta Pkwy & Cobb Pkwy. At completion this conversion will decrease energy consumption, which in turn will lower C02 emission levels in the City of Marietta.
The Marietta Board of Lights and Water will be starting the second project funding under the EECBG. This project will assist local Marietta small businesses by performing energy audits to reduce their costs, which creates an opportunity for them to save money for their business. Barry Echols, Marietta Power Marketing Director will be the project manager for this activity. The Marietta Board of Lights and Water has hired Southern Home Performance to assist them with conducting energy audits. For more information on how you can have an energy audit conducted at your business please contact Marietta Power at (770) 794-5106.
