Vehicle Releases
Police Services representatives release impounded vehicles seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The release copy of vehicle impound forms shall be given to the owner of the vehicle upon presentation of proof of ownership and valid identification. Proof of ownership may be the title, registration, tag receipt or GCIC computer files.
If the vehicle is a rental, the person receiving the release must present valid identification, paperwork showing they rented the vehicle and a release letter from the rental company. A representative of the rental company may obtain a release copy of the impound form by presenting valid identification, proof of ownership and a valid work ID.
A release copy on impounded vehicles may also be obtained by presenting valid identification, proof of ownership and a notarized letter from the owner giving the individual authorization to obtain the release form.
Proof of identification and proof of ownership are subject to being accepted at the discretion of the Police Services representative. Copies of identification and proof of ownership may not be accepted.
