Primarily responsible for responding to calls for service and patrolling the community

Three patrol shifts, Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) and Community Response Unit (CRU)

Shifts respond to all emergency and non-emergency calls for service 24 hours a day and conduct proactive patrols throughout community

CRU: responsible for coordinating programs, including the citizen's academies and Explorers

School resource officers are also assigned to CRU
Patrol Shifts

Three patrol shifts: day, evening and morning, eight hours each

Day shift begins at 7 a.m.

Evening shift begins at 3 p.m.

Morning shift begins at 11 p.m.

Officers assigned to three patrol shifts are responsible for responding to calls for service, investigating accidents, patrolling the city's zones and resolving complaints
STEP

Responsible for investigating traffic accidents involving fatalities and severe injury or leaving scene of accident

Officers assigned to STEP unit work various hours and days to respond to specified needs of community as well as traffic complaints not worked by patrol shifts
Community Response Unit

Traditional bike patrol and officers

Responsible for preventing crime, Community Outreach Police Services (COPS) areas, hosting and teaching citizen's academies, tours and other non-traditional law enforcement events

School Resource Officers as well as G.R.E.A.T Officers are assigned to CRU, each works with Marietta Board of Education to ensure safe schools and help students learn and grow in drug-free environment
Prisoner Transport

Civilian prisoner transport officers take people who are arrested from scene of crime to jail facility and incarcerated persons to and from court
Crime Interdiction Unit (CIU)
CIU was formed in 1993 under a grant from the Marietta Housing Authority. CIU started as a street level drug unit that worked primarily in the housing projects. Through the years CIU has changed and expanded to meet the needs of M-STAR and the community. Today CIU works street level drugs, surveillance operations, stakeouts, criminal investigations, alcohol and other criminal activity.
