Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue presented the Al Burruss Award for Creative Expression to the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau for its "Marietta – It's Hip to be Square" campaign.
"We're honored to receive this prestigious award, especially since the award was named in honor of Senator Al Burruss of Marietta, a longtime champion of tourism," Marietta Welcome Center executive director Theresa Jenkins said. "'Hip to be Square' came about after many hours of research and brainstorming by Welcome Center staff," Jenkins said. "We felt it focused on the vibrant and eclectic vibe of the Square."
The award, presented at the Georgia Governor's Conference on Tourism in Albany, was based on creativity, originality and ingenuity.
