The winter storm that affected the entire Metro Atlanta area caused gridlock on all roadways in every region. Many people were forced to abandon their vehicles due to the weather and seek shelter. Unfortunately a small percentage of the abandoned vehicles in the City of Marietta were left in intersections and in the middle of travel lanes which caused a serious issue for travelers and first responders on the roads. These abandoned vehicles were towed at the request of the Marietta Police Department to help ensure the roadways would remain clear of obstacles.
If your car was abandoned and was towed at the behest of the Marietta Police Department then you will be eligible for reimbursement by the City of Marietta. This only applies to abandoned vehicles towed by Marietta Police and NOT vehicles that were towed due to being involved in an accident.
Vehicle owners will be entitled to reimbursement if their vehicle was towed at the request of the Marietta Police Department due to a public safety concern and not a traffic accident. Please contact Marietta’s Public Information Officer, Lindsey Thompson at 770-794-5509 if your car was towed by Marietta Wrecker at the request of the MPD to submit your receipt to Lindsey Thompson (770-794-5509) for reimbursement.
If you have not yet retrieved your vehicle from Marietta Wrecker, you may pick up your car at no charge if you fall under these circumstances. Marietta Wrecker has been provided a list of cars from the MPD which were not involved in crashes. If you believe your car was left of this list please call Lindsey Thompson at 770-794-5509.
