"The bridge is being replaced partly because of the low sufficiency rating determined by GDOT bridge inspections," city of Marietta Public Works director Dan Conn said. "While the bridge is not currently dangerous, it is one of the oldest we have in the city and nearing the end of its safe and useful life."
"If you're familiar with the old bridge structure, it was very low and you can see where tractor trailers have hit it," Conn said. "The railroad bridge is very old as well so they're looking at replacing it too."
Conn expects construction, which costs approximately $11.2 million and is funded by GDOT, and the lane closures to begin in mid-April and be complete within eight months.
