Lifetone Alert Program
Did you know that…
18% of American adults 45-64 years old, 30% of adults 65-74 years old, and 47% of adults 75 years or older have some level of hearing loss?
The prevalence of hearing loss among people of all ages in the state of Georgia in 2008 was 290,300-and that approximately half of those were over the age of 65?
The 2005-2009 American Community Survey estimates that 9.7% of Marietta’s population is age 65 or older?
This fastest growing segment of the U.S. population as having one of the highest fire risks in the United States?
That the preferred method of an audible, high-frequency alarm is the least successful of the smoke detection devices, and that the strobe as an emergency notification device has generally been unsuccessful when used alone?
The Marietta Fire Department is pleased to announce the rollout of our latest public safety program, Home Safety Inspection Program for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. We have designed the program to protect our Deaf or hard of hearing citizens from harm by assisting them as they prepare for and react to emergencies. Our focus will be to educate individuals and their families on home protection devices such as specialized smoke detectors and home sprinklers, and on the importance of proper escape planning.
For those who qualify, we are offering free home safety inspections and the installation of the UL listed Lifetone HL Bedside Alarm and Bed Shaker. This is a service we will provide at no cost when a qualifying caregiver, family member, or Deaf or hard of hearing individual requests us to do so.
The Lifetone HL Bedside Fire Alarm and Clock contains the most advanced technology available today for waking people in home fire emergency. It actively “listens” for the distinct sound of your home smoke alarm 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (and is smart enough to ignore other high frequency sounds). When it detects your smoke alarm, including when you are sound asleep, it immediately begins broadcasting three different alert signals to give you the best possible chance of waking up quickly.
