J. D. Hill
J. D. Hill began his career as a firefighter in 1986 and became an EMT in 1987. He worked in fire suppression for 20 years as a firefighter, firefighter engineer and lieutenant. Spending much of his time on the squad, Hill obtained certifications in tactical rescue including high-angle rescue, swift-water rescue, trench rescue and many others.
Hill transferred to the Fire Prevention Division to oversee inspections in 2006. During that time, he obtained certifications in arson investigation, fire inspection, and public fire and life safety education.
In 2009 Hill was promoted to commander in 2009 and given the assignment of deputy fire marshal. He works with a staff of four lieutenants that administers investigations, inspections, education and plan review. He also works with three inspectors/investigators and one administrative employee.
Hill's achievements include the 2002 firefighter of the year award and 2003 public safety award from the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce.
