Bicycle Emergency Response Team (BERT)
With the extraordinary number of special events going on in the city of Marietta, the fire department is challenged to find ways of meeting the needs of the large numbers of attendees. The Glover Park Concerts Series, the Brown Bag concerts, and the Cobb 10k Classic are just a few examples of the events that draw large numbers of visitors. Large fire apparatus often struggle to get through, so Marietta's Fire Department strategically places emergency medical technicians throughout the event location. Equipped with supplies ranging from basic first aid to heart defibrillators, these athletic men and women climb on bicycles and weave their way in and out of traffic to reach those in need of care.
Marietta's most recent event calling for the services of Marietta's BERT-the Fourth of July celebration.
