Administrative Secretary - Vic Ruffin
Vic Ruffin joined the Marietta Fire Department in 1993. He began his career as clerk/typist for MFD's Training Division and currently serves as administrative secretary.
Ruffin's work in the Training Division includes tracking the required training hours for all members of the fire department. Each member is required to perform a total of 120 hours of annual training. In addition to monthly firefighters' core drill requirements, this total includes 24 hours of independent education annually. With each increasing rank, other requirements expand the total number of mandated annual hours. If any fire department member falls short of these hours, he or she risks losing the state's firefighter certification. Ruffin's diligence greatly reduces that risk.
In addition to his daily administrative duties, tracking hours is but one of Ruffin's multitude of tasks. He is also charged with processing member staff requests to attend various schools, including the Georgia Public Safety Training Center. His efforts include receiving and documenting the requests, obtaining approval for attendees, and obtaining proof of attendance.
