ADA Advisory Board Organization
Established: Ord. #5062, 7/8/92; Ord. #5253, 1/12/94; Ord. No. 5575, 6/12/96.
The purpose of this board is to provide commentary and technical assistance to the City Council in regard to the city's self evaluation process and transition plan in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Membership: The ADA advisory board shall consist of seven members who shall be either:
Residents of the city of Marietta
Residents of Cobb County who also live within a 10-mile distance from the corporate limits of the city of Marietta
Any eligible individual who is employed by an organization located within the corporate limits of the city of Marietta.
Such members shall be appointed by the mayor and City Council.
Term: Posts 1-6 three-year terms expiring 12/31
Post 7: This post is reserved for the member of the Council who is appointed by the mayor as chairman of Marietta City Council's personnel committee. This member shall serve a term equivalent to the length of appointment as chairman of Marietta City Council's personnel committee.
Vacancy: Any vacancy in membership shall be filled for the unexpired term by the mayor and city council. The mayor and council shall have the authority to remove any member for cause or written charges, after a public hearing.
Chairman: The ADA advisory board shall have as its chairman, the member of the city council who is appointed by the mayor as the chairman of the council personnel committee. All other committee members shall be either representative of the disabled community or an advocate of the disabled.
Compensation: Members of the board shall serve for no compensation.
Oath: Not required.
Secretary: The board shall elect its secretary from among its members or request city staff to fulfill that function on behalf of the board.
Meetings/Rules of Procedure: The board shall meet once per month or whenever called by the chairman, and shall make its own rules of procedure. All meetings of the board at which official action is taken shall be open to the public and all records of the board shall be a public record.
Meeting Date: Second Wednesday of each month at 5:15 p.m. in the second floor conference room of Marietta City Hall, 205 Lawrence St., Marietta, Ga.
