Marietta City Council Committees
Marietta City Council has seven committees that discuss new initiatives and legislation before deciding whether to forward issues to the full Council for consideration and possible action.
Each City Council member chairs one committee and serves on two other committees. The mayor annually makes appointments of council members to the committees, which are subject to the approval of council.
If more than one committee could potentially consider a matter, it would go to the committee most affected. If that is not easily determined, the committee chairmen involved would decide which committee should hear the matter, or the issue can be dealt with as a joint committee of the two committees in question.
Economic/Community Development Committee
The Economic/Community Development Committee deals with matters involving economic and community development. This committee also deals with the distribution of the hotel/motel tax monies, the renovation of the "Aurora" and establishment of a fire museum. This committee also handles matters pertaining to the Marietta Development Authority.
Members are Griffin Chalfant, as the chairperson, Johnny Sinclair and Anthony Coleman.
The Finance/Investment Committee reviews the budget as a committee of the whole and deals with budget matters in general. This committee also deals with setting the millage rate for the city and sets the fees or rates for business licenses and other city revenues.
Members are Annette Paige Lewis, as the chairperson, Jim King and Philip Goldstein.
The Judicial/Legislative Committee is the conduit for all matters dealing with zoning ordinance changes, general charter or ordinance changes, legal matters, or issues dealing with the Municipal Court. In general, the Committee deals with special projects of Council.
Members are Philip Goldstein, as the chairperson, G. A. (Andy) Morris and Jim King.
Parks, Recreation and Tourism Committee
The Parks, Recreation and Tourism Committee deals with matters involving city parks and tourism. This committee also deals with recreation facilities and other facilities handled through parks and recreation.
Members are Johnny Sinclair, as the chairperson, Anthony Coleman and Annette Paige Lewis.
The Personnel/Insurance Committee deals with personnel matters not covered by other committees. The committee annually reviews the personnel pay and classification plan before the first Monday in April. In addition, non-public safety personnel requests go through this committee. This committee and the committee of the whole handle the review and evaluation of the city manager. Personnel policy and benefits also come under the authority of this committee.

Public Safety Committee
The Public Safety Committee deals with matters concerning the police and fire departments personnel, pay, rules and regulations. The committee acts as liaison with the Civil Service Board and deals with the physical grounds of the police and fire stations.
Members are Anthony Coleman, as the chairperson, G. A. (Andy) Morris and Johnny Sinclair.
Public Works Committee
The Public Works Department deals with all the property owned by the city not covered by other committees. This committee also deals with roadways, traffic control devices and private property matters dealing with public works.
Members are Jim King, as the chairperson, Griffin Chalfant, and Annette Paige Lewis.
