MARIETTA - “It’s a week we look forward to every year as we come out of the hot, summer months and head into a more comfortable, Southern fall,” says Ron Mull, General Manager, Marietta Power & Water. “Our employees have worked so hard this past year dealing with the effects of historic winter storms, the diligence of keeping power reliable in the hot summer months, and some challenging water distribution issues. And power staff has even assisted other communities with storm damage as well.”

“We take this week to do things to really appreciate our employees and also let the community know the many positive aspects of local power and water distribution for Marietta’s residents and businesses,” stresses Mull.

Marietta Power & Water is among more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities, and many more municipal water and sewer systems, celebrating the safe, reliable and affordable services it has provided the community for 112 years. These same utility services generate revenues, much of which is put back in to the community.

Marietta Power & Water has almost 200 employees serving more than 45,000 industrial, commercial, and residential power and water customers. The week is noted with celebration banners on light posts, a proclamation delivered by Mayor Steve Tumlin at the September City Council Meeting, and other activities.

With a focus on reliability, Park Street Elementary students again participated in a poster contest with this year’s theme being “A Day Without …” urging students to imagine life without reliable electricity and clean water.  Winning posters will be available to view all year at City Hall.

During the week, visitors to the Marietta Power & Water administrative building can enjoy snacks and giveaways. Customers are also again invited to a Customer Appreciation Hot Dog Cookout Lunch in front of the main building on Friday, October 12.
