MARIETTA - The Marietta Museum of History is pleased to announce that it will host the next edition of the Remember When Club on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:30am at the Museum located at 1 Depot Street, Marietta, GA 30060.

September traditionally has us looking towards cooler weather, back-to-school and football. In September of 1928 the good citizens of Marietta were anticipating many of the same things. We can tell this by looking at the Marietta High School newspaper which features back-to-school articles and photos of football cheerleaders. The first edition of the newspaper had the title of the “?You Name it?”, as most know this became “The Pitchfork”. The Marietta Museum of History is happy to welcome Marietta High School alumni and friends to join us for the next edition of the Remember When Club. The September meeting of the Club will celebrate the 90th birthday the Marietta High School newspaper, The Pitchfork.  The Museum staff, working in conjunction with the current Pitchfork advisor, Andrea Lyons, and MHS Alumni Society’s Vickie Turner Hunt has put together a great panel of alumni editors, business managers, reporters and workers of the Pitchfork from multiple decades including, but not limited to the 40s, 60s and 80s. ALL alumni are invited to join the fun and share their memories of the Pitchfork and what it meant to them.

Other 90th birthdays to note:

•    In 1928 Fran Gordy dropped out of Georgia Tech and opened a restaurant called the Yellow Jacket. For a nickel Atlantans could buy a hot dog! Of course, we know the restaurant as the Varsity!

•    The GSPA, Georgia Scholastic Press Association was created in 1928 and will be celebrating its 90 years in the Grady School of Journalism in Athens, Georgia

•    90 years ago, Mickey Mouse made his debut in the Disney animated film “Steamboat Willie”
