August is National Water Quality Month!

National Water Quality Month August Banner

You can protect the quality of water we drink and protect the environment and ecosystems in which our plants and wildlife reside.  You can make a difference by:

Understanding your watershed:

A watershed is an area of land that drains to a body of water.  These bodies of water supply drinking water for a community.  The two primary watersheds in Marietta are the Chattahoochee and the Etowah.  Our friends at Cobb Water have some comprehensive information on these two watersheds:  information on watersheds

Make eco-friendly choices:

The water quality in our streams, rivers and lakes is directly related to our habits and behaviors. Lawn care, chemical disposal, and pet waste have a direct impact on our local water quality. Make a positive impact by limiting or eliminating the use of chemicals in your lawn, properly disposing of household cleaning/ maintenance supplies and picking up pet waste. information on household hazardous waste

Stream cleanups, stream monitoring and storm drain marking are some ways that you can participate in protecting our watersheds. Check out the Rivers Alive website for volunteer opportunities. Rivers Alive website
