On Friday, December 2nd, Mayor Steve Tumlin and City Manager Bill Bruton honored both current and recently retired City employees who have served Marietta for a combined total of 2,043 years. The City Manager also awarded several employees with various prestigious City-wide awards.
As we continue through the Holiday Season, the Marietta Fire Department would like to remind everyone of the need to practice fire safety, particularly when decorating your home and choosing a tree.
The City of Marietta is seeking applications from individuals interested in volunteering to serve on the Ethics Committee. The Committee will make the appointment to fill the vacancy following personal interviews. Applicants must be a resident of the City of Marietta and shall be an attorney in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia.
On Thursday, November 17, 2016, Governor Nathan Deal declared a Level 2 Drought Designation for the City of Marietta, Cobb County, and over fifty other counties. Additionally, the State of Georgia is still experiencing a drought containing VERY HIGH Fire Danger Conditions. In an effort to keep its citizens safe, the City of Marietta's Fire Department has placed a ban on all outside burning, effective immediately, until further notice.
Governor Nathan Deal has issued an Executive Order banning the use of fireworks in counties experiencing a Level 1 drought, this includes Cobb County and the City of Marietta. The Executive Order states that pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 25-10-2(b)(3)(E), the ignition of any consumer firework within the boundaries of the counties specified in this drought declaration is hereby BANNED for so long as this declaration of drought remains in effect.
As we prepare for the holidays by purchasing gifts and goods, please keep in mind that criminals in our society are also preparing. These criminals are preparing to take advantage of good people's generosity and complacency that accompanies this season of giving. While we dare not dissuade you from these benevolent characteristics, the Marietta Police Department does want to prevent those within our community from being victimized.
